Singing Midwife

I live and work as a midwife in Dumfries, Scotland. I began writing songs as a teenager, co-writing my first musical with my father in 1995 (Rock Nativity, the Christmas story as you’ve never seen it before, showing in Dumfries for its 25th anniversary in December 2020). When I began training in midwifery as a mature student in 2013 the experiences I encountered inspired a new vein of composition and the first eight songs from Labours of Love were recorded as a CD entitled Songs from the Labour Ward, which donates £1 from every sale to SANDS. These works were expanded into the full show in 2016.

I have always enjoyed acting and singing, performing with many amateur dramatics companies. I am now a member of Dumfries Musical Theatre Company and director of Fledglings Musical Theatre Company. I play guitar and also enjoy baking, entertaining and playing board games. I have been happily married to Gary for 16 years and we have 3 children.

Both my albums, ‘Songs from the Labour Ward’ and ‘Songs for Christmas’ will be available for sale at the conference.
